Getting Still | The Importance of Meditation
If you would’ve asked me 5 years ago years ago if I meditate the answer would have been a loud No. A young woman battling anxiety, scattered thoughts, road rage, and a “New York City on-the-go” mindset, meditation was something I didn’t know I so desperately needed.
I didn’t develop my practice until diving into yoga teacher training spring of 2017 and learning more about the practice.
I originally thought I couldn’t meditate because I didn’t know how to clear my mind. I would always get distracted, my mind would start wandering, and then I would have to quickly snap out of it.
Little did I know this was all natural and a part of the process.
What is meditation?
Meditation is the practice of single pointed concentration on an object or concept.
This ancient practice was founded 1500 BCE in India.
The goal of meditation isn’t to control your thoughts, it’s to stop letting them control you.
Meditation allows you to get to know yourself better and grow.
Benefits of meditation:
Boosts immune system
Improves concentration, mental clarity, and focus
Decreases stress, worry, depression, and anxiety
Decreases blood pressure
Improves heart health and sleep
Increases self-awareness and positive thoughts
Just by allowing yourself at least 10 minutes a day to get still you can improve your life in so many ways.
