Getting Clear: Eliminating yoga as my crutch

Ever since I started practicing yoga back in 2013 it has always been a tool of self care. I have shared many times over how my practice began at a low point in my life after being in a state of confusion and loss, yoga gave me purpose. It’s definitely something that played a role in lifting my spirits.

I could step on my mat and flow for hours trying to work toward accomplishing a new goal of hitting a pose and I loved the way I felt afterwards.

I honestly think back to those days and smile. I was so committed. But little did I know I was forming a habit that would be detrimental for years to come.

Whenever I would have a bad day I would turn to yoga. I would step onto my mat and push all of my worries to the side. Allowing myself to remain present meant ignoring what was really going on. This was all wrong.

Even up to about 6-8 months ago I still found myself turning to my practice to workout my stuff. If I was stressed from work or had a bad day, yoga practice it is and all will be well, right?

After the practice I was still left to deal with my stuff. Yoga was only a bandaid that made me feel good in the moment but hours later the truth would settle in and leave me with the same problem.

It was at this point that I knew something had to change. How could I work through what I was going through?

I then decided to continue my deep practice to work through the physical, but then I would focus on clearing my energy blocks in a journaling practice. Journaling allowed me freedom to process, freedom to acknowledge, and freedom to find answers.

Once I developed this practice and stopped using yoga as a crutch or bandaid I noticed real change.

I noticed shifts in my life towards a positive attitude.

I actually got clear on what I wanted for my life and determined specific actionable steps I needed to take in order to get there.

Little did I know that making a shift towards doing the work would allow me to make my dreams a reality of leaving my full time corporate job and pursuing a new life in yoga and wellness.

If you find yourself using self care tools as a crutch instead of doing the work to process your issues, consider starting a journaling practice.

I share all of the specifics of my journaling practice in my March Masterclass, “Getting Clear: Manifestation Journaling” in my membership space, ELEVATE. You will also receive a 17 page PDF workbook to serve as a companion to the workshop. If you want to know the method I use to literally dissect any problems I face and deal with them instead of suppressing it this workshop is for you. I also go into goal setting, my method of manifesting, setting affirmations, and more!

It’s time to get clear on your goals, release what no longer serves you, and manifest the desires of your heart into reality.

Self Care Starts Here. Are you ready? Let’s go!

With love and light,
