DIY Faux Floral Arrangements
Who said you can't have sunflowers in the winter?!
I loveee flowers. For me, my favorites are lilies and sunflowers.
The way a Lilly blooms from just a tight bud is something that I feel resembles life.
And sunflowers just have a way of brightening up a room where you can't help but to smile when you look at them!
In North Carolina, where I'm from, you will often see huge sunflower patches along the highways in the summertime. Absolutely Beautiful.
Unfortunately you can't find sunflowers during the winter so I thought why not make them "permanent" and add some faux ones to my home. You can make a faux floral arrangement too! Here's how:
Grab some supplies
- Silk Flowers - I got 3 stems from Walmart for about $2 each
- Craft Water
- Wire cutters or pliers
- Plastic mixing container (You'll want to toss this after use)
- Disposable wooden stick or plastic utensil
*Frugal Tip: After Valentine's day you can snag vases at Walmart for $0.25ea. I racked up on a few last year ;)
Now to the fun part!
First, make sure your vase and mixing container are clean (you don't want any dust in your "water").
Next measure and prearrange your flowers. Check the length of the stems and see if you need to cut like I did. If so, use wire cutters or pliers to work the stem back and forth until it breaks.
Optional: You can then paint over the tips of the stems with clear fingernail polish to help the green not "bleed" into the water. This especially needed if you use craft water that is heated.
Next, mix the craft water according to the directions on the box. Keep in mind there are many different kinds and each have different methods of preparation.
Pour the water into your vase and add your flowers. Position them to your liking (you have up to an hr to reposition) and let set for at least 8 hours. Then boom you're done! Super easy right?!
Floral arrangements from craft stores tend to cost anywhere from $40 to $99. Why not create your own for less than $15?!
