Italian Pizza Margherita | TATW

For Week 5 I decided to do Italy! After my recent trip to Italy I learned the history of the famous Pizza Margherita. In a nut shell it is named after the first queen of Italy, Queen Margherita, and the colors of the Italian flag, red green and white. Here's the simple recipe.


Pizza Dough

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 Tbsp yeast
  • 1 Tbsp salt
  • 5 cups flour
  • 4 tbsp olive oil


  • Pizza dough
  • 1 can Tomato sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves


  1. Prepare pizza dough: In a medium size bowl, mix warm water and let sit for 5 min. Add flour and salt and mix  until a ball forms. Add olive oil and cover bowl with saran wrap and let sit 30min to an hour to rise.
  2. Preheat oven to 350.
  3. Spread dough onto 12in pizza pan. Add tomato sauce, mozzarella and basil to liking.
  4. Bake for 12-15min or until crust is golden brown.
