Italian Pizza Margherita | TATW
For Week 5 I decided to do Italy! After my recent trip to Italy I learned the history of the famous Pizza Margherita. In a nut shell it is named after the first queen of Italy, Queen Margherita, and the colors of the Italian flag, red green and white. Here's the simple recipe.
- 2 cups warm water
- 1 Tbsp yeast
- 1 Tbsp salt
- 5 cups flour
- 4 tbsp olive oil
- Pizza dough
- 1 can Tomato sauce
- 1 1/2 cups mozzarella cheese
- Fresh basil leaves
- Prepare pizza dough: In a medium size bowl, mix warm water and let sit for 5 min. Add flour and salt and mix until a ball forms. Add olive oil and cover bowl with saran wrap and let sit 30min to an hour to rise.
- Preheat oven to 350.
- Spread dough onto 12in pizza pan. Add tomato sauce, mozzarella and basil to liking.
- Bake for 12-15min or until crust is golden brown.
