I'm feeling inspired to let my Thursday "fitness/yoga" posts be devoted to wellNESS as a whole so roll with my here.
Today I had a moment where anxiety started to creep up. I know if I let it consume me then the outcome of what I was a little anxious about would've been negative.
To be transparent, anxiety is something I've struggled with for a while now. I've had full blown "attacks" one of which left me crying on the kitchen floor at 4am taking shots of rum just a yr ago (reasons I no longer keep hard liquor in my home).
Triggers can be anything from interviews, social situations, speaking engagements, fear of failing, or just life in general.
It's something a lot of us face. For me, yoga helps, but what do you do when it sneaks up on you and you don't have time to grab your mat?
How can you pull yourself together in 30 seconds or less?
I've taught myself a few easy tricks that can be completed in just 30seconds that helps calm my anxiety.
1. I whisper "God you are with me".
My faith in God is the reason why I'm still alive today. The knowledge that he is with me each and every moment day after day is reassuring. Sometimes I have to verbally remind myself of this.
2. Feel the Earth
Next, I bring awareness to my feet on the ground and "feel the earth". I take notice of how firm and solid it is. I'm grounded. I'm standing in this moment. I'm in control.
Lastly, I do a simple breathing technique. Typically when your feeling anxious you exhibit a rapid heart beat and get that nervous feeling.
To calm myself down, I inhale slowly for 3 counts, hold for 3 counts, and then exhale slowly for 3 counts.
During this breathing technique I am encompassing all of the above; Telling myself God is with me all while bringing awareness to my feet being planted on the ground.
So the next time you feel a bit of anxiety creeping up, slip away and try these 3 simple tips to bring yourself back.
Do you suffer from anxiety? How do you keep it at bay? Let me know in the comments below.
Be awesomely amazing,
